| …….What
are the school buildings like? What are the facilities on
offer?
In
November 2002, we celebrated the school’s 130th anniversary. As part of our history curriculum we enjoy a day re-enacting what it would have been like to be
at school when Bramfield School was new!

The buildings
are traditional late Victorian, with many original features,
and clues to its past still surviving. (We have a large archive
of historical documents and photographs of the school over
the years, which we can use with the children in developing
a sense of history.) There is a great sense of continuity
in the school, with one current pupil being the fifth generation
to attend the school!
Of
course, over the years the buildings and facilities have been
regularly updated and now provide all up-to-date facilities,
within the framework of the old building.
We have added a new staffroom, which also provides a quiet
area for meetings and 1-1 work with children. We have also
updated the hall, library and entrance areas and replaced
the old swimming pool and dome and the teaching areas.
There
are two main class bases, one for Foundation and Key stage
1 children (aged 4 -7) and another for Key stage 2 children
(aged 7 – 9).The
key stage 1 area includes an outdoor play area in an enclosed
courtyard and has its own cloakroom facilities. The key stage
2 classroom has a bank of computers linked to the internet,
and an interactive whiteboard for class teaching was added in 2005. It has an outdoor area for quiet work.
There
is a central hall for dining, assembly, PE activities, and
the school is lucky to have a well-stocked library which we use for teaching Y1 and 2 in the mornings. .The
school has it’s own kitchen on-site, where lunch-time
meals are cooked freshly each day.
The buildings
are set in lovely grounds consisting of garden areas with
a pond, field, hard play area, swimming pool and a large barked,
adventure play trail area (see photo)
provided by the Friends of the School. (The children
are involved in taking care of their grounds and gardening
and are proud of the special places they can play… like
the crannogh!). The buildings are all on one level with access
for the disabled via the KS1 area.
