The Bramfield Out of School Club officially opened in April 08, in response to a need identified by (working) parents for childcare before and after school. It is registered by Ofsted as a childcare facility, to cater up to 16 children from 4-11 years - ex-pupils from Bramfield up to age 11, are very welcome to join come along!.

The aim of the club is to provide before and after school childcare in a relaxed atmosphere. Children are able to use the school grounds to play in, use the computers and take part in a variety of activities, including art, craft and imaginative play. (Other activities clubs will continue to run in the school, on a half-termly cycle, e.g. drama, swimming, Makaton signing, football)

A simple breakfast and after-school snack are provided.

The club is based in the area that is used as Foundation room and extension during the day. It has its own entrance, toilet facilities, phone, and from June 08, its own kitchenette area. The area benefits from being part of the school, in that the procedures, policies and checks that apply to the school apply here too. (A booklet of policy documents relating to the Out of School Club, is available in the club - ask the playleader).

Out of school Club sessions run as follows:

  • Breakfast club 7.45 – 8.45am
  • After school club 3.30-6pm – (not Friday at the moment – but could be available on request.
  • Parents are welcome to use ‘one off’ sessions, and ‘pay on the door’, so long as spaces are available.

Plans are being developed for an all-day holiday scheme in the May half term and for the first 4 weeks of the summer holidays.

Three staff have been recruited, and they will share the sessions between them.

Play leader is Anna Frost, who is sufficiently qualified for this post, and has considerable experience of running holiday play-schemes. Anna is also known to many of you as leader of Stepping Stones Pre-school. She will be supported by Craig Warwick (again qualified and experienced in play work) who will be deputy and Diane Bond as an assistant. Two staff will be involved in each session. Please note that the play-leaders will be responsible for care of children in sessions, but the school office will administrate on bookings, fees, queries. The Club is managed by a committee from Bramfield School Governing Body which includes headteacher, 2 governors and administrator.

Registration and Booking Sessions

If you are interested in using this facility you will need to -

  • Complete a registration form for your child/children (enclosed)
  • Complete a monthly booking form (enclosed) if you need regular childcare, or check with Judy in the office to book an occasional session
  • If your child has special needs please check with the school office, so that we can make necessary arrangements

Payment of Fees:

Fees are calculated to cover staffing costs for each session, and are in line with other local provision. Basic fee is £3.00 per hour.

Please note: After school club:

You are asked to pay only for the time that the child attends, not per session. (ie if your child attends Choir club on Tuesdays until 4pm in the school hall you are asked only to pay for the OOS Club from 4pm until you collect your child – minimum payment per ½ hour ! )

Breakfast club is £3.00 and includes cost of breakfast.

The fees arrangement will run for the first 3 months, and be reviewed in July 08.

  • Families with 3 children are offered a concession of ‘pay for 2 and the third gets in free!’
  • We would appreciate fees being paid to the school office with the monthly booking form, or weekly to the school office if monthly is difficult. (Unused sessions will be carried over to the next month).
  • Occasional users can pay per session – please give the money to the playleader in a named envelope. Occasional use is very welcome so long as there is space – please check in advance with the school office, as 16 places is the limit per session.

Any further questions please contact Mrs Benefer or Judy in the school office The first month will be a settling-in period, and we will be monitoring procedures and welcome feedback from users of the club. Please note that the club will operate only from the designated area in the school, not the whole school, as teachers and support staff will be working in the rest of building!
